Qualities of Australian Merino Wool

Australian Merino Wool has some incredible qualities which hold it in high stead in the fashion industry. Being a natural fibre Australian Merino Wool boast many characteristics which synthetics do not and when you think about sheep surviving in the harsh and varied conditions of Australia it makes sense that their wool is so incredible and versatile. Below are some of the amazing qualities of Australia Merino Wool many of which are carried through into your Lana Vello garments.

100%

Australian Merino Wool is 100% natural as it comes from the approximately 70 million sheep farmed across Austalia.

Being a natural fibre Australian Merino wool is 100% biodegradable. Not only does it decompose in soil within a few years it also returns valuable nutrients back into the ground.

Sheep continue to produce a new fleece each year making it 100% renewable.

Temperature Control

Being an active fibre means Australian Merino Wool reacts to your body temperature and can be cooling when you are hot and warming when you are cold.

Breathable

Australian Merino Wool fibres have the ability to absorb moisture and allow it to be evaporated making garments very breathable. This makes it an ideal fibre for activewear and suitable for wearing year round.

Resistance

Australian Merino wool is naturally resistant in many ways.

The natural protective layer of the fibres help to prevent stains soaking in. Merino Wool products are also easier to care for than many people would think, as garments can be machine washed and dried.

The fibres are naturally flame resistant especially compared to synthetic fibres.

Australian Merino Wool also provides great protection from the sun. Fibres absorb UV radiation making it an appropriate choice when undertaking outdoor activities.

The ability of the fibres to absorb moisture means there is less sweat on your body. It also absorbs odour molecules within the sweat which are stored and released when you wash your garment.

Stretch and Feel

Australian Merino Wool is very fine and flexible compared to other wools, meaning it’s softer on your skin. It also has natural elasticity making it an ideal fibre for activewear.
